Nostalgia is what comes to mind when thinking of the hairstyles we’re seeing so far in 2022. Yes, because of the craziness of 2021, many women have embraced their natural texture and a more easy-going style – we’ll see a lot of that still this season – but we’re also seeing fresh, layered styles reminiscent of the ‘good old days’ but with modern twists.
Our stylists at Village Salon have put together some of the stylish, statement cuts we’re seeing in the hair trends of the season. Lobs, bobs, fringe, bangs – they all may seem to be the same old cuts – but with the retro styles and updated styles, you’ll love these new hairstyles!
Blunt Cuts. Simply put, a blunt cut is a haircut without layers. If you have thin hair, blunt cuts are known for making your hair appear thicker no matter the length. Whether you decide on a blunt bob that grazes the chin and celebrates your natural texture, or a texture blunt style that combines the longer length of a lob, you’ll love the body and texture a blunt cut provides.
Fabulous Fringe. Short or long, wavy or curly, the modern fringe gives hair new life with endless layers, incredible movement, and bangs to die for. We’ll be seeing this style around for quite a while since it’s the perfect cut to personalize with any length you desire. Add some highlights to the layers for an amazing multi-dimensional style.
Delightful Layers. It doesn’t matter if you have thick locks or naturally fine hair, layers add texture, definition, and sass.
70s Long Hair Revisited. We’re loving this feminine, feathered style. Feathering is a technique made famous in the 70s which gives texture to your hair, shaping the ends of your locks.
Bangs Galore. Yes, bangs are still trending more than ever. We’re seeing soft wispy bangs with lots of layers to add a soft, romantic style to both straight and curly hair. Curtain bangs are the perfect blend of modern and retro all rolled into one bang cut. Long or short hair, your curtain bangs will draw attention to your face – in a good way. If you have a lot of body with your hairstyle, baby bangs can help to tone down that volume with a softer look.
Preppy Cut. We’re seeing a re-emergence of argyle sweaters and the preppy cut is back in with it! This modern version of the shoulder-length preppy style is uber-feminine with a flat texture for free-flowing locks and a shiny finish. For a twist on this hairstyle for the busy jet-setter, ask your Village Salon stylist about a helmet version that’s easy to manage and upkeep. Hair accessories look great with this style so have some fun!
Timeless Bob. This classic, timeless haircut seems to always be in style. It crosses gender lines, skin color, and hair texture with its endless variations.
Lob Love. If you aren’t too keen on the shortness of a bob, the lob may be a better choice for you. It’s essentially a bob, just longer. This year you’ll be seeing everything from the collarbone to longer.
Perfect Pixie. The soft cut of the pixie is still going strong in 2022. Enjoy the short and neatly trimmed around the ears pixie or the grown-out pixie with its longer bangs and grown slightly below the ears. Both offer a nice, polished shaved neck in the back and can be shown off with some great highlights to give added attention to your locks.
Whatever hairstyle you choose, be sure to ask your Village stylist about the best haircare products for your texture to keep your hair looking amazing in between salon appointments.
